We are happy to share that Shanti Seva Nidhi Trust has initiated to work with IIT Bombay Nutrition group and Zila Parishad Thane to launch a program of “Eradication of Malnutrition among newborn babies by introducing proper breastfeeding techniques”.
The health and nutrition status of newborn in Thane are
- The data of National Family Health Survey-5 2019-20 for under-5 children data shows that only 4.6% of children under 6-23 months old are fed the minimum acceptable diet.
- 40.8 % child are being stunted in thane district with Nandurbar district being highest at 45.8%.
- 17.5% children are wasted, while 7.0% face severe wasting again 21% being highest in Chandrapur district.
The program will start for talukas covering rural areas (Murbad, Shahpur, Ambernath, Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan).
The first meeting took in month of Nov 18th 2022 with ZP team (ZP CEO-Mr. Manuj Jindal, CDPO- Child Development Project Officer, PDO- Panchayat Development Officer, ICDS officer- Integrated Child Development Scheme Officer, ADHO- Additional District Health Officer)

The meeting discussed the new pedagogy for training breastfeeding (BF) techniques to create 50 MASTER TRAINERS for the selected talukas. The master trainer is responsible to supervise n train at block level. The candidates for selection of master trainers will include Nurses (District Hospitals, Rural Hospitals, Public Health Centres, Govt. child Nutritionalist (NRCs))
Currently the program is in its starting phase of assessment through theory and practical training and assessments via online (app-based) and offline modes for initial 2500 women trainers.
